Life outside of the US presents a much different picture than what we're used to seeing. In most of the countries I went, the people are a lot poorer, work takes up a lot of their time, and just getting by is a struggle.

There is less of an entertainment industry and more of a sustainment imperative, food and shelter are key. Even simple things like newspapers are often expensive and therefore in short supply.

Almost all transport is for the community   Simple rainstorms flood streets, like anywhere else

Not a lot of places to bathe   A pump and a bucket will make do

Just like those guys hanging around Times Square   Washing clothes in any water you can find

Do you have something in copper?   Mom and child rinse off, Cambodia

The Calcutta version of Wal-mart Hanoi men read the paper - yes, you won the war!
